Derry, Northern Ireland
Richard Holland (39) has been working as a parking attendant in the old town centre of Derry (Londonderry) for three years. He used to work in a factory, but that closed down. Richard likes his work: ‘I’m outdoors all day, which I love. And the people are generally pretty relaxed. Very rarely things might get a little out of control, but then I can get police backup immediately.’
The fine for parking violations is 30 pounds. This is increased to 60 pounds after 14 days. If a parking offender hasn’t paid the fine after one month, their car is clamped when a parking attendant comes across it somewhere in town.
